Sacrament Preparation, 2019-2020
Meetings for First Reconciliation Preparation:
September 18, 6:30 pm, Wagner Hall - Sacrament orientation meeting for parents
November 13, 6:30 pm, Wagner Hall – meeting for parents
At this meeting we will explore the theology of the Sacrament of Reconciliation, and review its practice.
November 20, 6:30 pm, Wagner Hall-meeting for parents and children The children will decorate candles used during the First Reconciliation Celebration. Candles and supplies will be provided.
December 14 (Saturday), 10:00-11:30 am, Church— Celebration of the Sacrament of First Reconciliation Parents, relatives, and Godparents are encouraged to attend the celebration and receive the sacrament themselves. Children will sit with their families. Sunday dress is appropriate (no jeans, shorts or gym shoes).
Meetings for First Communion Preparation:
January 22, 6:30 pm, Church --for parents and children Fr. Joe will take you on a “Walk through the Mass” describing what we do at Mass and why we do it
February 12, 6:30 pm, Wagner Hall meeting for parents and children At this meeting the children will decorate the fabric squares that will become the altar cloth for the First Communion Celebrations. Fabric squares (9 inches by 9 inches) will be provided. You will need to bring a plan and the decorations! Please do not use glitter or 3-dimensional decorations! Felt shapes, fabric markers, colored glues all work well.
March 11, 6:30 pm, Wagner Hall meeting for parents
At this meeting we will explore the theology of the Eucharist, discuss how this is a Sacrament of Initiation, and describe how the Sacrament is celebrated at Our Lady of Perpetual Help.
April 24 (Friday)—First Communion Retreat-All Day in Church and Wagner Hall (8:00 am - 2:30 pm), parents and children
The retreat day is full of hands-on activities, prayer, and lessons about the Eucharist. Parents are encouraged to attend as much of the day with the children as possible. Permission to participate in the retreat day is obtained for the children who attend other schools. You will need to bring a sack lunch for you and your child!
April 26 (Sunday)—First Communion at Our Lady of Perpetual Help, 2:00-4:00 pm. Children will need to be in church by 1:15 pm for the group picture. Proper attire for the boys is a shirt and tie with long pants; a jacket is optional. Proper attire for the girls is a knee-length dress suitable for church. Traditionally, First Communion dresses are white and with veils.
Childcare is available BY RESERVATION ONLY! Please call the parish office @ 944-1184 by the Monday morning prior to the event!
